The Pensions Regulator was only established in April 2005. It has a key statutory objective to raise standards of best practice and to facilitate the spread of best practice.
The 2011 objective is to look carefully at Pension Schemes internal control procedures. The Regulator requires, by law, pensions professionals to whistle blow bad practice!
The Regulator has the power to fine companies up to £50,000.00 for breeches while individuals can be fined up to £5,000.00 for each and every breach.
